When it comes to practicalities laminate is the top choice too. The resin bonded surface is easy to clean and highly durable. The core structure of the worktop is provided by high density particle board which is strong but easy to cut and form with woodworking tools.
Upstands, splashbacks and matching plinths can enhance your worktops and can often make a good job look even better.
